A poker hand must consist of five cards, and it does not matter how many of A pair of aces beats any other hand containing only a pair (aces are high in poker). A hand consists of five cards, but only a straight, flush, full house and straight.
Any hand in a higher category beats any hand in a lower category (so for five to form a poker hand, the remaining cards do not play any part in the ranking. When comparing full houses, the rank of the three cards determines which is higher. Ace can count high or low in a straight, but not both at once.
The cards are ranked (from high to low) Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace.
